Technological advances have improved our ability to diagnose problems before birth. The fetus is therefore increasingly becoming an independent individual, and fetal medicine is the specialty that deals with this unborn patient. Fetal Medicine specialists are basically Obstetricians who have a special interest in the problems faced by the fetus and have developed skills to diagnose and solve these problems.

For the majority of mothers, pregnancy is an enjoyable journey, culminating in a bundle of joy at the end. However, in about 15% of pregnancies, certain complications occur that threaten to compromise the outcome. About 90% of the fetal problems can be grouped under placenta-based/ prematurity-related/congenital problems.
